Environmental Geochemistry International (EGi) has worked across more than 500 mine sites in over 30 countries. So, we are pleased to welcome a new staff member who brings experience in Chile, Peru, Panama and Mexico to the company.

Gabriela Herrera has just joined EGi as a Hydrogeologist in our Brisbane office. Her work spans copper, gold, coal, and oil and gas projects — delivering groundwater monitoring, drilling and field supervision, geological modelling, and the technical interpretation that turns field data into decisions.

Transport via groundwater systems is a primary means by which geochemical risk can impact the environment. Groundwater chemistry and flow paths can often dictate where potential AMD-impacted waters can end up.

An understanding of these transport processes and the mechanisms involved requires people who straddle multiple disciplines. Gabriela is a geologist and hydrogeologist — key disciplines for understanding the transport of potential AMD impacts.

Gabriela has previously worked at SLR, WSP Chile and TIMining. Alongside her mining work, she has also worked on renewable energy projects, including with ENEL Green Power, helping clients work through groundwater management, environmental compliance, and operational planning.

"I'm excited to join EGi and contribute to the team," Gabriela said. "The chance to work on complex groundwater and environmental projects while developing my skills alongside experienced professionals was a key reason for joining. I'm looking forward to contributing to projects that support responsible resource development and effective environmental management."
